Coalition urges Wike, Fubara to sign peace pact within 90 days

The Coalition for Democracy and Development has urged FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, to resolve their disagreements and agree upon a fresh peace accord over the coming three months.

The CDD condemned both Wike and Fubara urging them to prioritise the welfare of the people in the midst of the political crisis.

In a declaration penned by the Public Secretary of CDD, Dr. George Ifure, he expressed sorrow over the political turmoil in Rivers State, further stating that this continuous crisis clearly highlights the inadequacy of leadership.

To resolve the crisis, the CDD also called on President Tinubu and the National Assembly to establish a committee comprising eminent Nigerians who can mediate and find a lasting solution.

The group said, “We call on Wike and Governor Fubara to put aside their differences and work towards signing a new peace pact within the next 90 days. We urge them to prioritize the interests of the people and find a lasting solution to the crisis.

“We warn Wike and Fubara that Nigerians are ready to hold them responsible if they fail to sign a peace pact within the stipulated timeframe. The CDD calls on President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to name a committee for the resolution of the Rivers State political crisis.

We encourage President Bola Tinubu to create history through his approach to managing the situation in Rivers State. This critical juncture demands courageous and forward-thinking leadership. We urgently ask him to prioritize the well-being and concerns of Nigerians, heed their calls, and strive for a tranquil and democratic solution that reinstates democratic rule in Rivers State.

We strongly encourage both sides to adopt peace and achieve an urgent resolution of the crisis. The CDD holds the view that resolving this crisis peacefully is essential for reinstating democratic rule in Rivers State. We call upon all involved parties to collaborate in seeking a peaceful and democratic outcome to the situation in Rivers State.
