The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has asserted that all their appointments and duties follow proper procedures, rejecting claims made by the staff union regarding issues with its leadership.
Following recent media coverage about its management and administrative choices, the commission released an official press release signed by its Assistant Director of Information and Publications, Fatima Sanda Usara.
The statement provided to the Nigerian Tribune on Friday underscored that, being a public entity, NAHCON mandates adherence from its leadership and staff to its regulatory guidelines and civil service protocols.
Usara also stated that, unlike what has been reported in various media outlets, the NAHCON Staff Union did not file any petitions against the leadership of the Commission.
In response, the union simply sent an internal memo to management concerning particular internal issues.
Usara states that "The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) recognizes the recent coverage in the media concerning its leadership and management choices and therefore aims to respond to the issues highlighted in certain articles."

As a public entity, NAHCON consistently ensures that both its leadership and staff adhere to its regulatory guidelines and civil service protocols across all of its functions, whether operational or administrative.
NAHCON's leaders understand the crucial part played by staff unions in promoting employee well-being across global organizations. Nevertheless, the Commission disagrees with the inaccuracies presented in certain circulating reports regarding its interactions with its Staff Union.
It is widely known that Staff Unions within public institutions advocate for employee benefits and prioritize their members' interests above others. Thus, management remained unfazed upon receiving a communication from the Union’s Executive Committee pushing for improved status and well-being for NAHCON staff relative to other pooled officers; concerns currently under consideration.
“Contrary to what has been reported in some media outlets, the NAHCON Staff Union did not file a petition against the Commission’s leadership. Filing a petition would involve reporting them to an outside entity. Rather, the Union sent an internal notice to NAHCON Management regarding specific internal issues.”
In response to claims of favoritism within the commission, the statement affirmed that all appointments and placements at the Hajj organization adhere rigorously to established procedures. It also refuted the assertion that the son of NAHCON’s Chairperson/Chief Executive Officer, Professor Abdullahi Usman, received a position as a personal aide in the commission.
Concerning accusations of favoritism, our commission firmly asserts that all appointments and placements at NAHCON adhere rigorously to established procedures. The assertion that Professor Abdullahi Saleh has designated his son as a Personal Assistant within the Commission is untrue.
"Furthermore, assertions about retirees being listed on NAHCON’s official staff roster indicate either intentional miscommunication or a lack of understanding regarding the Commission’s organizational framework," Usara pointed out.
Although the commission welcomes productive criticism, Usara encouraged the press to make sure that conversations regarding NAHCON’s management and functions remain fact-based and devoid of hype.
As she stated, "Although NAHCON values insightful criticism, we urge journalists and those assisting them to ensure that conversations regarding NAHCON’s management and activities remain accurate, meaningful, and devoid of hype."
“NAHCON’s management remains open to address any legitimate concerns through the appropriate channels rather than media campaigns designed to mislead the public.”
Consequently, she emphasized NAHCON's dedication to facilitating a seamless Hajj experience for Nigerian pilgrims.
"The commission's main objective is to concentrate on its primary duty of facilitating a seamless Hajj experience for Nigerian pilgrims. The management values significant inputs that aid this endeavor and promotes constructive dialogue that maintains the accuracy of information communicated to the public," Usara said.
