CM Stalin: 'Today Will Go Down in History' Ahead of Delimitation Meeting

Chennai (Tamil Nadu), India, March 22 (ANI): In anticipation of the initial gathering of the Joint Action Committee concerning the matter of redistricting, Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister MK Stalin remarked on Saturday that this day would go down in Indian history as a significant turning point. It marks the occasion where states came together to protect the country's federal framework through advocating for “equitable delimitation.”

In a social media posting on X, Stalin stated, "This date will go down in history as the moment when regions that have fostered our country’s progress joined forces to protect its federal framework through equitable delimitation. I extend my warm greetings to all Chief Ministers and political figures attending this gathering, bound by our dedication to equitable redistricting."

Several leaders from opposing political parties are beginning to arrive in Chennai for the inaugural Joint Action Committee Meeting concerning the matter of redistricting. The move comes as the Tamil Nadu government, led by MK Stalin, seeks to challenge the central authority governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party, arguing that this action threatens the principles of federalism.

The Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar voiced his strong disapproval of the delimitation process and stated that they would under no circumstances allow their parliamentary constituencies to decrease in number.

Shivakumar additionally offered his congratulations to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin for implementing this measure. With evident pride, Shivakumar remarked that Stalin is safeguarding the federal framework and the nation’s constitutional integrity.

"I extend my congratulations to MK Stalin. He has embarked on an important journey, and we take great pride in his efforts to safeguard the federal framework and constitutional integrity of our nation. Gathering today marks the start; collectively, we shall deliberate on future advancements and collaborate… Representatives from Telangana, Punjab, Kerala—we’ve convened here as one… Under no circumstances can we allow our nation’s stature or representation to diminish… Our state prides itself on being highly progressive. Economically stable and literate, we remain steadfast… Unitedly, we stand firm and ensure that our influence does not wane…I warmly greet all those holding BJP banners aloft. Even if incarceration at Tihar Jail awaits me, fear holds no sway over me…" stated Shivakumar to ANI.

The Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar came to Chennai on Saturday for the state’s representation at the initial gathering concerning delimitation.

A gathering involving Chief Ministers and representatives from different states will convene at Chennai today. This meeting, initiated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, aims to address the matter of delimitation.

The leaders from Telangana have already made their way to Chennai for the scheduled meeting. Both Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and K.T. Rama Rao, who serves as the working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), landed in Chennai on Friday evening with the intention of participating in the gathering.

The Punjab Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, has arrived in Chennai to take part in the inaugural meeting of the Joint Action Committee.

The arrival list includes Odisha Congress President Bhakta Charan Das and Biju Janata Dal leader Sanjay Kumar Das Burma.

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, has urged different political parties to unite in protesting against delimitation. He announced that a Joint Action Committee meeting will take place in Chennai, where he invites delegates from multiple political parties to convene and stand together against what he describes as an overt attack on federal principles.

Chief Minister Stalin sent letters to the Chief Ministers of seven states, including those governed by the NDA as well as others, inviting them to join his campaign against what he deemed an unjust process.

The Tamil Nadu administration led by MK Stalin has clashed with the Central government regarding the three-language policy outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 as well as the redistricting process.

Previously, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin convened an all-party conference to address the potential effects of the suggested delimitation on the state; however, this meeting was not attended by the BJP. (ANI)
