Israel Vows Strong Response to Rocket Attacks Launched from Lebanon - International Edition (English)

JERUSALEM - Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz cautioned that the military would respond forcefully following the interception of three rockets launched from Lebanon into northern Israel on Saturday.

We can't permit flames from Lebanon to reach Galilee communities," Katz stated. "The Lebanese government holds responsibility for assaults originating within its borders. I've instructed the armed forces to retaliate appropriately.

At 7:30 am (0530 GMT), air-raid sirens echoed through Metula, an Israeli town close to the Lebanese border.

The Israel Defense Forces subsequently stated that three rockets had penetrated their territory but were thwarted.

We assured safety for the Galilee communities, and this commitment will be fulfilled," Katz stated. "Metula’s future mirrors that of Beirut.

The official national news agency in Lebanon reported that Israeli fighter jets flew over the southeastern parts of southern Lebanon, adding that interceptors detonated.

The NNA reported that Israeli ground forces were firing upon the Hamames hills using automatic weapons.

The report indicated that Israeli artillery targeted the Nabatieh region in the south as well as the town of Khiam, which experienced bombardment from “three shells launched by Merkava tanks.”

The armed forces also used automatic weaponry against the border communities of Hula, Markaba, and Kfar Kila.

On November 27, a ceasefire mostly put an end to over a year of conflict between Hezbollah, backed by Iran, and Israel. This included nearly two months of intense warfare during which Israeli forces deployed ground troops.
