Uasin Gishu A significant crisis is developing at Moi University as lecturers have served a seven-day strike notice due to unpaid February 2025 salaries.

Why are Moi University professors going on strike?
The ongoing disagreement also arises from the university’s supposed non-compliance with the Return-to-Work Formula agreement signed in November 2024.
In a missive directed at the Moi University Council, UASU Secretary General Constantine Wasonga charged the institution with breaching the Employment Act of 2007 and neglecting to uphold the Return-to-Work Agreement reached on November 30, 2024.
"The Universities' Academic Staff Union (UASU) has issued a seven-day strike notice effective from the date of this letter," declared Wasonga.
The strike notification from March 21, 2025, underscores the escalating dissatisfaction amongst faculty members regarding the institution's inability to fulfill its fiscal responsibilities.
The union has threatened to go on strike if the wages are not fully paid by Friday, March 28, 2025.
Wasong spoke clearly and firmly, stating that lecturers would remain absent from their jobs until they received payment for their February wages.
"You are explicitly and absolutely notified that all UASU members at Moi University must halt their work immediately and will not return to their duties until the full payment of the salaries due in February 2025 has been made. This industrial action will begin on Friday, March 28, 2025," he stated.
