U.S. President Donald Trump has rescinded the security clearances of his previous political adversaries from the Democratic Party, including Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton, along with several high-ranking ex-officials.
The announcement, made via a presidential memo, came after Trump declared in February that he would revoke the security clearance of his predecessor, Joe Biden. In the most recent statement, the president reiterated this decision and expanded the action to encompass "all other members" of the Biden family as well.
"I have concluded that it is no longer in the nation's best interest for the following individuals to have access to classified information," stated Trump’s memo.
Historically, ex-presidents and high-ranking security personnel have been granted continued access to classified information out of respect, but this custom has been overturned by Trump through an extensive action impacting members from both major parties.
Included among those impacted are former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, ex-Republican officials Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, along with Fiona Hill, who was a Russia specialist advisor during President Donald Trump's initial term.
Other names on the list include Jake Sullivan, Lisa Monaco, Mark Zaid, Norman Eisen, Letitia James, Alvin Bragg, Andrew Weissmann and Alexander Vindman.
