At a shared press conference with Czech President Petr Pavel on Friday in Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the notion that the United Nations alone can sustain peace.
The Ukrainian president stated that a UN peacekeeping mission would not suffice to offer Ukraine the necessary security assurances to stop Russia from launching another attack after the conflict ends.
" In regards to the United Nations, we hold them in high regard; however, we cannot rely on them for protection against occupation or Putin’s potential invasion of our nation. The UN does not serve as an option for contingencies or security assurances for us. " said Mr. Zelensky.
The Ukrainian president reaffirmed his support for a military contingent to which Ukraine's European partners would contribute as one of the desirable options to deter Russia from invading his country again.
